| Hey guys, I know this is a sensative topic and a lot of people may feel uncomfortable commenting if they haven't experienced it but I was just wondering about what you guys think about Euthenasia? | |

| Well, I think it is wrong, But wright. If the person doesn't whant to live and is in a whole load of pain and they tell you too. I don't think I could do it. But if I was the person who wanted to die I would make them I know it is a bad thing but still.. If you where in that much pain that you can't even kill yourself thats sad. | |

| there are two sides to euthenasia so its hard to just say "no its wrong." or "yes its right."
theres the option when the person has actually lived and for one reason or another their quality of life is lessened enough to actually raise the option of letting them die.
and theres the option of aborting a baby because theres something wrong that could lessen their quality of life.
i personally think both options are acceptable reasons for euthenasia. The only qualms i have about it is whether the person has decided to die and whether the reason e.g. paralasis actually warrents such drastic action.
ive experienced both because last year my little brother (unborn) was diagnosed with a syndrome that would mean he wouldnt be able to move, talk see or hear well and would probably die before he hit five. We had to make the decision whether to abort him as, by that stage, he was too big to just abort; he had to be born. basically we had to decide whether to have him still born or alive for possibly only a few hours, days, weeks or months, no one would know.
the other option was when my gran worked in a nursing home and a lady there was completley paralysed and could only move her eyes. she looked up and down a few times for yes and left and right a few times for no. she wanted to die and made it very clear to everyone that she had seen all she wanted to see and was no longer able to enjoy life so she would rather end it then carry on. but it wasnt allowed so she had to wait.
i dont think thats fair.

| I agree that it's unfair. The major difference bewteen the two stories is that your gran was able to choose, whereas your brother wasn't. I think that that makes a huge difference. I think it's not something that you can easilly judge, without having been there yourself. I'm sory to hear about your gran and brother, foaf. May I ask what hapened with your brother? | |

| yeah i agree its the choice.
yeah its fine; my brother was aborted as we decided it would be too hard on him to expect him to live with the amount of horrific disabilities he would have. It would also be very hard on us as a family to have to watch him struggling and then for him to die would be terrible.
So he was aborted and then born. we got his hand print and a lock of hair and pictures so he will never be forgotten. We had his funeral a week or so later and he was cremated with a small cuddly toy. and we all have the same cuddly toy :]
so it doesnt always have to be a sad affair because we know that he is better off with the decision we made x||x

| yeah it was a hard thing to do but even now, having lost him and been through the grief and stuff, i still think we made the right choice.
If this form of euthenaisa wasn't allowed then we would be waiting every day for James to die. going to sleep every night wondering whether that day was his last, whether kissing him goodnight would be the last time you ever saw him alive. and he'd know it too. what sort of life is that?

| I dont think it counts as life really. Itd be very unfair. People say, who has the right to hand out death... but who has the right to allow a child to suffer in that way? two sides to everything i guess.
Euthenasia... its still illegal isnt it?
